I'm looking for a new brand. I always used the cascade complete and I get spots. Well, this last time I bought electrosol and I HATE it! It leaves a gritty feeling on the dishes. I'm tired of spots on my silverware and glasses. What do you guys use in your dishwasher?

Cascade complete here too and am not sure it is working very well. Not only do the dishes get spots, but there are an aweful lot that don't even get clean!

I'm finding that too. They show on tv that you can put a whole cake in the dishwasher and it will clean it up...I say bull crap! I rinse my dishes before I put them in, but I don't scrub them first. What would be the sense?
:roflmao2: I just was talking to Mike about this. I switched from cascade to electrsol and hate them both. They used to work:thud:

:ohhh: I'm starting to see a conspiracy here! What the heck are we going to do now? How weird is it that we all were using the same thing and it used to work and now it doesn't? Maybe they are messing with our dishwashers and will come out with some outrageously priced stuff that you will HAVE to have or you will never see clean dishes again! :yep: We need to take a stand I tell ya! :roflmao2:

Electrosol is the only thing that works for me. I don't use the powder though I use those little tabs that have the ball in them or a gel pack.

I have a water soften and we never have any trouble. My dh hates this dishwasher as it is just builder grade dishwasher and you have to rinse the dishers before you put them in. My last house had a high end dishwasher and you could put day old dishes in there and it cleaned them. I think the dish washer and and water has alot to do with it.

I use the cheapest no name powder. One thing I learned from my mom is to NEVER put the powder in the actual compartment. I just put it in the bottom of the door part while the dw is open. This way, it does not clog up and stick to everything. I've been doing it this way for 10+ years, and my mom always did it like this. I do not add that liquid spot stuff that goes in the bottom of the dw either. I do not have spots, and my dishes are always very clean. Oh, also, I do not keep the auto dry on. My DW has ruined many of my beloved tupperware comtainers from the auto dry cycle.
ETA: I have used the Electrosol gel packs and tablets with success too. I break the tablets in half, and just drop it in the bottom of my DW like I stated above.

I use electrasol tabs or gel packs. We have a crappy DW (low end builder grade) but next year were are getting a new really really good one. I have heard that the powder doesn't dissolve well and the liquid is clogging.

I have the "Whirlpool quiet partner 2'. Not a cheap dishwasher at all and it's only 2 years old. Most of my dishes come out really nice, but my plastic and glasses have spots. Also my silverware, sometimes more than others. Maybe I'm putting to many dishes in there? I use the normal wash setting and leave it set for the machine to dry them. I like that the heat disinfects the dishes. When I first used the cascade complete it worked really nice. This last time I bought the electrosol and it came with 3 of those tabs with the little pearl ball in the middle. They worked just ok and then I tried the powder. It leaves a grit feel like I said in my first post. I'll have to try the sunlight. Also I run the dishwasher every 2 days, so the stuff is on the dishes for that long. I use corellware and usually they get nice and clean, it's just certain things in there that aren't getting done right.

Hey Terri, I just had a thought, have you checked to see if your drains were clogged? A couple of times I've had spoons or small measuring cups drop down in the bottom of the machine and clog where the water drains (or maybe where the water squirts out?) and every time something is clogging those areas my dishes come out dirty. Tomorrow when it's sunny out and you can see into your dishwasher really good get on your hands and knees and run your hands along the bottom areas that you don't pay much attention to and see if there's anything clogging those areas. If there's nothing there you might want to call your dishwasher manufacturer and see if they can give you some ideas of what to check next.

Thanks Cardy, I'll check it out today. I think I'll have to get my book out and look in there too.

I use this generic powder called Glo, from Save A Lot, and add Jet-Dri the first of every month. I've been doing that for three years now, and no problem with spots here.

Terri,
Maybe you could just get up inside your dishwasher while you run it through a cycle... :roflmao2: :roflmao2: :roflmao2: Just kidding..... I don't know why that came to mind after I read Jans post but it did and I just had to post it! :roflmao2: :roflmao2: :roflmao2:
