I was wondering if you could keep bacon fat in the frig. If so how long will it stay good?

:donno: I didn't know you could save bacon fat. I always dumped it in a can and let it harden than tossed it in the trash.
What do you use bacon fat for?

My sister does this all the time. She saves hers for about 4 years.. lol.. or so it seems. Actually, I think she uses it within about a month and then feeds it to her dogs if it's still in there.

personally, I've never used bacon fat. SO said that he wanted to start saving it, to use in beans etc to flavor them.

I always keep it. My mom used to keep it on the stove and would scoop out some to put in everything from beans to fresh vegetables ... everywhere you would use regular vegetable oil. I keep it in the fridge to make gravy with when I don't have fresh grease.

Gosh, when I was a kid all my relatives had a container for bacon fat on the stove "for seasoning". It seems like it was always there but I think it was used and replenished often... :thud:

Seemed like they all had the same Jewel Tea autumn pattern dish for it too. The Autumn pattern stuff goes for big bucks now on ebay.

umm... I think it lasts forever. My grandparents used it in everything, too. It's really good in cornbread! :yep:

When I do cook bacon, I save mine. On the stove it will last a month or so, but indefinately in the 'firge in a covered container!
