My son likes to take his lunch to school but he is tired of sandwiches. Since he is only in 1st grade a microwave is not available.
Does anyone have any ideas of what I can fix him? Peanut products are not recommended because he has a classmate with a severe peanut allergy. The school also has a peanut free policy.

Is he a big eater? I used to pack those cheese crackers, applesauce, string cheese, cut up fruit, etc. It might not be enough food for a growing boy though.

no, I wish he would eat more. He is starting to eat in the lunchroom some when they have what he likes.

I send mine with lunchables, salads, that kind of stuff.
Ashleigh has an insulated thermos for soups and stuff. Maybe twice a week I'll get her those individual serving cups of macaroni or ravioli, etc. Since the thermos keeps food hot for 4 hours, I warm it at 8:30 and put it into the thermos. She eats lunch at 12:00. (Also good for leftover beans & rice, stews, pastas, etc.)
Yesterday, she had macaroni, yogurt & PB Crackers. Today she had a ham & cheese sandwich, vanilla pudding & a fruit snack.
We've also done sandwiches in a pita pocket and sandwich meat put on a tortilla and rolled (like a jelly roll) and cut up into bite-sized pieces. I make it a point not to do sandwiches more than twice a week, though.

Those are some good ideas. He doesn't like what they are having tomorrow so I am sending some chili. I told him I would microwave it real hot and it should still be warm by 11:00. I made him practice taking the lid off the bowl. If this works for him we have a plan!

Amy, what grade is Asheigh in? 12:00 seems late for a child under 3rd grade. All the kids in K and 1st go between 10:45 - 11:30 at my child's school.
Ashleigh is 3 and she is in a 3yo pre-k class.
She eats breakfast at home at 8. They have snack at 9:30 and eat lunch at 12:00.

oh! for some reason I thought she was at least in Kindergarten. 12:00 lunch doesn't seem so late. My son eats breakfast at 6:30 and has to be at school by 7:30. I don't think get they mid-morning snacks in "big school" :)
1st grade starts at 7:30? My kids would just die!!!
Ryan is in elementary school and he starts at 9:00.
Brandon is in Jr. High and he starts at 7:30.
High School starts at 7:20.

When my DS was in school (K-12) he ALWAYS had the same (boring) lunch and loved it.
On very thin white bread a low sugar strawberry jam sandwich.
Applesauce
Pudding or Jello
Milk
3 cookies
