My husband and I are wanting to go to just cell phones, but can you still get internet service this way?

You can get cable internet, satellite or cell modem. The cheapest would be cable.

You might need a house phone for your security system.

we don't have a house phone.. we just use our cell phones and we obtain our internet through our cable company. You can usually get a good deal when you combine services.

Then there's no reason you'd need a home phone, I don't think. Unless you have Tivo... then you'd need either wireless internet or a home phone.

I just popped in here to say I don't see why not as long as aren't living in the stone age wtih dial-up like we are. LOL
I learned a few things - have to have a house phone for security system and TIVO. Hmmm, whoda thunk? Glad I stopped in. LOL

Who do you have internet service with?
I have AOL. One of these days I'll have Cox ~ Whenever I remember to call them. I always forget until like midnight or so. Then they are closed. :donno:
I have a house phone for my fax machine (I never figured out the fax through the computer stuff) and my security system. Even when I didn't need it for that, I held on to it for the kids for when they are old enough to talk to their friends on the phone and too young for a cell. I have the cheapest basic plan though - just to hold on to the number because I have an easy number and the kids remember it. Since my oldest has a cell and my 3 youngest are not at the talking on the phone stage yet, my house phone hasn't been answered in years. LOL! I give that number to people I don't really want to talk to, but insist on having my number.
I didn't know you needed a phone line for TiVo?
{We have DVR service through Cox.}

Yep, that's how Tivo gets the programming information unless you have wireless internet (which we do). There might be a way to hardwire it into the cable, but we never figured it out for our box :donno: Our box is a few years old though.

When we get the new house built at the ranch which is in the middle of NOwhere I plan to connect via my Verizon cell phone. You have to buy a gizmo of some sort and there is a monthly fee.
